Think about others who you come into close contact with as well. The vaccine , certainly the first dose, may partially protect you individually, but does not stop you carrying the virus to others. I had my first early, as a volunteer at a vaccine station when some was left over, and feel a bit safer as a result. One beautiful effect of having a 12 week gap between is that many more of the population will be vaccinated and we should all be safer as a result.

As I understand it, what the vaccine does is to lessen the effects of the virus should you get infected and it will be more like getting the common cold, etc for the majority of people.

The vaccine is like wearing a seatbelt. It will protect you in an accident likely save your life, but there is always the odd chance it may actually kill you or cause severe injuries.
People complained about the introduction of
mandatory seatbeltss as well.
