Definitely for me. Made life more bearable at home and I was happier than I have been in years. Having something for myself definitely improved my mood which made home an easier place to be

Having this type of arrangement is definitely a positive .I've got less time to be iirked by petty irritations at home with somebody else to think about and look forward to meeting with etc .People have mentioned the drawbacks of falling in love with another and if you do inevitably you might start to resent your partner at home whilst seeing the lover with rose tinted specs .

I find I have more sex with my husband when I'm having an affair so in that sense relations at home definitely improve and he seems happier with me

Yes, and its odd that because a little more tension is perhaps added personally but is outweighed by the err friendship - so relationship with spouse becomes easier.

For all kinds of reasons I believe it does, as long as you don't get caught. Instead of being part of the furniture of every day life, you have someone who hopefully is actually positive about seeing you and making you feel desired which surely helps everyone's mood and self esteem. Also it gives you another outlet, being able to talk to someone who is interested in what you have to say and in what you do. And the intimacy which one hopefully has with your IE, the touching, the little gestures, even the twinkle in their eyes when you meet up can have a very relaxing effect. The sex can be an amazing release (and a chance to experiment and, together with your IE, push your mutual boundaries) which adds spice to your life, but its the bigger picture as to why having an IE in your life can be so positive.
