Look, I’m not saying I want to run away from my life. Because, honestly, I cannot do another Tuesday where my biggest thrill is finding a 2-for-1 deal on Greek yogurt. I cannot pretend that “Shall we try a different brand of bin liners?” is a conversation that sets my soul alight. I want danger. Passion. Ideally, an Irishman with strong forearms and a troubled past.

But instead, here I am. My inbox is mostly discount codes. My idea of rebellion is putting the heating on before 6 p.m. My husband’s idea of foreplay is yelling, “Shall we defrost the freezer this weekend?” And don’t get me started on my friend Emma, who insists that meal prep is a valid substitute for excitement. I don’t want to spend my Sunday putting portions of lentil stew into labeled Tupperware, Emma. I want to be flung against a wall by a man who reads poetry but also knows how to hotwire a car.

So, I am officially manifesting a life where something happens. A grand gesture. A dramatic encounter. At the very least, a new pair of knickers that make me feel like I belong in a French film. And if that doesn’t work, I will simply have to fake my own death and start again. Possibly in Venice. With a new name. And a really good hat.
