Thoughts on drinking protocol on a first date? Anyone else have a pre-drink for dutch courage?

I usually chat loads prior to meeting so we know what we're gonna be talking about, that first drink would be together, and laugh about how we both needed it!! 😂
I'm totally missing the Durham bars at the moment 😢

I have had enough of the smell from an alcohol breath, if I get that at first date. I’ll be running back to my car faster than Usain Bolt.

@exoticOrchid I take time chatting and getting to know my IE before make a date arrangement.

I had many lunch dates and it was never that painful at least I got a friend.

I don't rush to things and I am very straightforward about what I want and the way I look before even meet so it works for me.

70%of the time I decide to not proceed but we always have a good time .

"My first date is always over lunch"

Experience has taught me never to commit to a meal for a first date because if things don't work out, there is nothing more excruciating than sitting through a meal. Always a coffee or a drink only … if things go well and it turns into a meal, that's another story!

I read in another's profile "If you don't look like your photo, you are buying me drinks until you do!" I liked that.

My first date is always over lunch.
No drinks.

If we proceed further and decide to go on a second date...a bottle of wine or Champagne in the hotel room is welcome, just because we want, not because it is necessary.

Not necessary to drink before a date. Would rather have a drink with a meal anyway.

I wouldn't need a drink before a social meeting, no.
I might have a glass of wine however while on the date and I'm perfectly happy to pay for my own food and drink.
